Drilling talk is all talk

Introducing her new “energy bill,” House Speaker Nancy Pelosi declared

“If [Republicans] want to drill offshore, we’ll say, ‘OK, You want to drill in the outer continental shelf? Let’s have a discussion and a change of the relationship between our oil, which is owned by the American people, the desire of Big Oil for us to subsidize their drilling, and…the American people not getting the benefit of the profits.’”

Once again, the Democrats slam Big Oil to the American public.  This time Pelosi indicates that we need “a change of relationship” between the American people and the Big Oil companies, stating outright that the American people “are not getting the benefit of [oil] profits.”

How about a change in relationship between our elected officials and the American people?

How about the benefit of having our interests represented in our elected government?

Outraged over rising fuel costs, the American people are demanding that their elected officials do something to develop American fuel resources to decrease our dependence on foreign suppliers.  Most of us are smart enough to realize that more supply equals less cost.

We recognize that supply from inside America insulates us from disturbances in global sources.

But once again, the Democrats change the subject from “drilling” to “let’s have a discussion.”  The Democrats want to talk about who is “not getting the benefit of the profits.”

Maybe most Americans don’t care about who gets the profits as long as their fuel costs are reasonable.

Republican Representative Michele Bachmann (R-MN) hit the nail on the head.  She contends that “Speaker Pelosi’s so-called ‘energy’ bill will do nothing to help our energy crisis.  It will multiply red tape and make it almost impossible to lower already skyrocketing oil costs.”

A more sinister thought is that perhaps that is the true goal here.  Without high fuel costs and a souring economy, the Democrats cannot successfully engage in anti-capitalist rhetoric and class warfare tactics.  They need these tools to convince Americans to elect them to cure the nation’s ills.  They want Americans to be dependent…dependent on THEM to make the right choices for US…to elect THEM to tell us what we need.

Fortunately, many of us are wising up and realizing that THEY are the problem.  And we aren’t just talking about it.

  1. MANNY Says:

I think that the Leases could send a per cent of the profits to the Tax Coffers, but, I want the profit to the Oil Companies to be enough to make them continue to explore and drill. The extra money in the coffers isn’t to be additional spending, but relief to the Tax Paying Producers in this country. Also, the retention of the dollars in the US is a big incentive, maybe the biggest incentive. We can at the same time further develop alternative power sources. Less Government, More Oil and Gas.
